Thrive - Don't Just Survive
Friday, March 8, 2013 at 1:00 PM - Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 5:00 PM (PST)
There’s a fundamental misconception in education right now. People actually believe you can learn to be a photographer just watching videos and webinars. You can no more learn to be a professional photographer sitting in front of your computer than you could learn to drive a car watching videos! So at SCU we've decided to do something radical. We're going to go back to basics. To human handshakes, telephone calls, meetings that happen face-to-face in a room full of people who share a passion for photography.
This first SCU program will focus on very specific classes to help you get the year off to a strong start. We don’t want you to just survive in 2013, we want your business to thrive!
Here’s our all-star line up:
How To Photograph Everyone: Clay Blackmore
Clay will deliver a mini version of his incredible class. Watch Clay share secrets few have ever learned.
Learn the 1, 2, 3 of Portraiture
Loop Lighting and Posing Breakout Sessions
How To Shoot Engagement Sessions: Michael Corsentino
Michael takes you behind the scenes of his lifestyle engagement shooting style. Michael’s unique style will offer you insights on how you can improve your engagement sessions and at the same time, increase your income.
HD Video/Fusion: Rich Harrington
Rich will get you up and running fast with the essential tools for shooting and editing video. He'll show you the best way to make your subject look and sound great. You'll then learn how to use the tools you likely have (Adobe Photoshop) to create new fusion products for your clients.
Marketing Your Photography Business: Scott Bourne
Scott will teach you his new marketing approach. He’ll break down the five things you need to master to market your photography and share new insights and secrets into the mix of traditional and social marketing methods. This is a brand new program.
Publicity and Promotions: Skip Cohen
Skip will be hitting hard on two key areas, both with immediate potential to help your business.
Publicity 101: With Skip’s help you’ll actually write a press release specifically tailored to you and your business. He’ll include tips on how to get it published and suggestions for things you specifically need to do while at WPPI. This is about getting exposure for your business and helping to build your own brand awareness. Best of all, he’s going to help you write the release!
Promotion Planning: What are the specific promotions you’ve planned for 2013? Skip is going to cover thirty different ideas to help build business and your brand. This is about creating excitement for your company and getting the community behind you and your business. It includes building a strong network and developing some great marketing skills to get you to that goal of thriving. In addition, every attendee gets support from Skip following the workshop.
Breakout Sessions: Attendees will have time with Clay and Michael in scheduled breakout sessions, helping you gain a better understanding of lighting, both studio and working with speedlites. These sessions will add to your hands-on experience. And if history repeats itself, you'll probably find yourself in a small group "after school" shooting on the strip in the evening.
SCU Unconference: Levi Sim Coordinating
What’s an unconference? It’s an opportunity for photographers to get exposure for their ideas and techniques in a venue that normally would be reserved for more seasoned speakers. Here’s the challenge, we know so many of you have great ideas on techniques, pricing, marketing and networking, but how are you going to get the experience of presenting? Here’s your chance for 15 minutes of fame. We’ll be hosting up to eight different speakers during this conference and looking forward to great ideas that just need a little nurturing.
Only attendees can present at the Unconference. Once your registration is processed we’ll send you an application inviting you to submit an application to be an unconference speaker.
Registration & Investment
Is your photography career worth $129? This per person cost includes lunch for the first 100 registrants. The first 50 photographers registered receive an SCU baseball hat. And there’s a bonus – wear your SCU hat to WPPI and if you’re spotted by our mystery giveaway elf, you’ll win a brand new Drobo 5D with 64GB mSATA Fusion Drive - value $900. That’s a one in 50 chance of winning a Drobo!
Hotel Special: The Hampton Inn, for a limited time is offereing a special $89 rate, but you have to call the hotel directly. That's $89 for the nights of March 7, 8 and 9 if you want it. Call 1-702-948-8100 for more information. Ask to speak with Cassandra in sales to lock in the rate.
Agenda for Thrive
Everything starts promptly at 1:00 pm on March 8 at the Hampton Inn's Conference Center.
Friday, March 8, 2013
1:00 Welcome: Skip Cohen
1:15 Skip Cohen - Becoming Your Own Publicity Machine: Make sure you've got something to write on. We're going to go through the key components of a press release, then work on an actual release we'll customize for each attendee that relates to your trip to Las Vegas. Like other programs Skip has done, it doesn't end by the clock, but ends when you've got what you need and he'll be available to help you when you return home.
2:30 - 4:30 Hands-on With Clay Blackmore: Nobody teaches classic posing and wedding photography better than Clay Blackmore. He'll be focusing on helping you build a stronger foundation to your skill set in wedding and portrait photography.
4:30 - 7:00 Break and Dinner (Each attendee is responsible for their own dinner plans)
7:00 - 8:00 Open Forum: At other programs we've found that it's so helpful to do a completely unstructured forum to answer questions you've got on building your business. In the past, we've talked about everything from insurance to closing the sale. One year, even the topic of posing came up. Some of the SCU faculty will be there to help you find the answers.
